Our Quoting Process
For smaller projects, if you have approximate m2 or plans, we start with an initial cost estimate over the phone or email so you have a clear idea of pricing upfront. If everything sounds like a good fit for your project and you’re ready to take the next step, we’ll book in a site visit. During the site visits we will: ~ Measure the areas for an accurate quote. ~ Work through options and recommend the best materials for your project. ~ Bring our material sample kits to assist you in colour selection. We then email you a detailed quote for you to review within 48 hours of the visit. For larger projects - If you have plans handy, we can review and provide you with a quote. Send them to hello@smoothstonemicrocement.com.au
When Do We Get You Involved In a Project?
NEW BUILDS/SUBSTRATES: Once you have plans and inspiration for your project send them through to our email for quoting. To get the most out of your bespoke finishes, we require new surfaces to be prepared inline with Australian Standards, but with extra consideration. We are happy to work with you and your architect / builder / interior designer in early stages to ensure we are all on the same page with substrate information to assist with flow. We will send through our substrate guide pdf. as reference. We are also qualified plasterers, painters and renderers. EXISTING SUBTRATES/RENOVATIONS: we usually look after substrate preparation for exisiting surfaces (tiles, laminate). If your project is in the bathroom or kitchen, plumbing will need to be disconnected prior to us commencing and areas will be out of use during the duration of application and sealing.
How Long Does Installation Take?
Once we have seen your project we can provide an approximate installation timeline. As a guideline, from start to finish, a small microcement bathroom project will be out of action for 2 weeks. We will come and go multiple times throughout the process for application and sealing, as dry time is required inbetween coats.
Can I Choose a Custom Colour?
Yes absolutely. We work with 2 Microcements - Mercaider (Mineral Fox) and Forcrete (Calce Company). Mercaider comes in over 120 colours that are customisable in strength. Forcrete Microcement has set colours to choose from but can also be colour matched to any colour you're after. We can provide up to 3 complimentary customised samples for projects that have been confirmed with a deposit paid.
Can Microcement Be Repaired?
Yes we have solutions to repair microcement. Depending on what you need 'repaired' the good news is you don't need a whole new bathroom if microcement patching is needed.
Does Microcement Crack?
Microcement is highly crack-resistant, it's thin, flexible layers move with the substrate instead of fracturing. Hairline cracks will only appear if there's significant movement in the substrate itself, or in rare cases with a lime-based microcement component if it's applied incorrectly. Worth noting: that same substrate movement would crack tiles too, you just wouldn't see it, since it happens under the tiles/grout lines instead of on an open surface. Correct preparation and skilled application make all the difference to how well microcement holds up over time.
How Do I Clean Microcement?
Daily cleaning is simple, a soft microfibre cloth or mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner (if you don't use the formulated micro cleaner) is all you need for everyday maintenance. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive scourers, as these can wear down the protective sealer over time. OUR BIGGEST TIP: Wipe up spills promptly (especially oils and anything acidic like wine or vinegar) to help keep the surface looking its best for longer + place felt pads under furniture.
Which Areas Do You Service?
We are based in Byron Bay region. We service Southern Gold Coast (Burleigh Heads area) through to the Northern Rivers and surrounding suburbs. However, we are open to travel for projects! We've recently completed projects in Yeppoon, QLD.
Can i See Product Samples?
Yes, absolutely! We offer a selection of small product and colour samples that showcase the customisable finishes of the materials we use. For every project confirmed with a paid deposit, we provide a complimentary custom project sample before work begins. This allows you to confidently approve the colour, texture, and finish before application. Our samples are perfect for mood boards and for seeing how a finish interacts with light, surrounding materials, and your space. If you'd like a custom sample before booking your project, you can order one for $300, which will be credited towards your final invoice should you proceed with the project. Alternatively, you can order standard material samples directly from our suppliers, Mineral Fox and Calce Company. If you're a builder, interior designer, or architect, we'd be delighted to arrange a material viewing. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
